Social Tools - My Space

Click to get to MySpace

My Space is a social networking site. Contrary to popular belief that MySpace is mostly for teenagers, recent research presents that the majority audience is around 35 years of age. (Click image to get to MySpace.)

My Space allows users to, similarily as in Facebook, create profiles, network with friends, produce blogs, upload photos and video, and create customized pages. The difference between Facebook and MySpace is that Facebook allows users to share networks or interest groups. MySpace's slogan is "A Place for Friends."

What is attractive with MySpace is that it creates a 'home' on the web within one environment where users can create blogs, web pages, discuss, and share. They can also listen to music and watch videos. All these different components are available elsewhere on the web, but in MySpace they are gathered under one umrella.

Use in classroom
In MySpace students can create profiles and share their interests with other students. These may serve as classroom introductions and help students connect. Students can create blogs as assignments and uploade photos. Streaming media can be used for assignments and and/or lecture purposes. Assignments may be posted on bulletin boards.

MySpace tends to be less private than Facebook.
