Dissertation Defense, April 11, 2016

Re-named to A Phenomenology of Fostering Learning: Alterate Reality Games and Transmedia Storytelling, I successfully defended my work on April 11, 2016 and graduated May 13, 2016.

Dissertation Proposal Defense, March 7th, 2014.

The title of the accepted proposal is "Teaching through Alternate Reality Games and Transmedia Storytelling: A Transcendental Phenomenology Study. My dissertation committee consists of Major Professor Dr. Scott J. Warren (Department of Learning Technologies), Dr. Lin Lin (Department of Learning Technologies), Dr. Brian O'Connor (Department of Library and Information Science), and Dr. David M. Kaplan (Department of Philosophy and Religion Studies). Thank you for serving on my committee and guiding me on this journey!

Doctoral Portfolio Defense, September 13, 2013

This website was designed in preparation for my Doctoral Portfolio Defense, which took place September 13th, 2013. As part of the larger digital portfolio scholarly writing, publications, and technology-based creative work are included:

My goal is to become a Professor of Instructional Design Technology; to continue a developed research agenda focused on social media, games, and transmedia use in higher education; teach instructional design, research methods, and mentor doctoral students in social research; facilitate student learning and research; and collaborate with faculty on research, publications, and grant writing.

I wish to thank my docotoral advisory committee Dr. Scott J. Warren, Dr. Lin Lin, and Dr. Gerald Knezek in the Department of Learning Technologies at the University of North Texas for guiding me along this journey towards my Doctoral Portfolio Defense. Especially, to my Chair, Dr. Scott J. Warren, thank you for contatively raising the bar, for your time, thought, enthusiasm, support, and guidance at every turn and for your high expectations. A sincere thank you to Dr. Lin for our discussions and your thoughtful advice and for letting me accompany you to PIDT. And to Dr. Knezek, thank you for letting me in on the secrets of statistics, letting me participate on research papers, and for being there when I ended up at the hospital.
